Weekend About Town: Watts and Eastside
If you’re not headed to Comic Con this weekend, you’ve still got plenty of options: Saturday LACMA starts running weekend shuttles to the Watts Towers, and on Sunday Eastsiders and Eastsider wannabees can party down at the Los Feliz Street Festival.
Saturday: Sprawling Sculptures
Meet up at LACMA Saturday and head to Watts for tours of the towers and neighboring arts center. Check the schedule and order tickets here. Though they aren’t the kind of architectural masterpieces we usually focus on, these intriguing sculptures, built by hand in the early part of the 20th Century, deserve a look. Constructed by Italian immigrant Simon Rodia in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, the towers are encrusted with pieces of broken glass, ceramics, tiles and other wares of the pre-plastics era.

- Sunday: 12:30-3pm
- no tours on national holidays or rainy days

Old Hollywood Glamour for Sale in Los Feliz
There is nothing better than a superbly restored 1930s Spanish-style home, and on this week’s Caravan (our tour of open houses) that’s what was on the menu at 2459 Park Oak Drive in Los Feliz.
Complete with a lush screening room fit for a movie star, the deco details of the 5bed/6bath home listed at $3,495,000, abound; taking you right back to the golden age of Hollywood faster than you can say Musso & Frank.
According to the listing agent, Josh Flagg, this house not only feels historically important, rumor has it that the home does have a place in history as it allegedly features the first swimming pool built in Los Feliz. Who knows if it’s true, and really who cares. The important thing is that this home is beautiful and we thought you’d want to take a look!
