New neighbors in Hollywood: Madame Tussuads
Yesterday, in addition to seeing several fantastic properties, we attended the ribbon cutting of the new Madame Tussauds on Hollywood Boulevard next to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Mayor Villaraigosa, Councilmen Eric Garcetti & Tom LaBonge were all on hand. They spoke of the 15 years it took for the museum to come to fruition and of how architect Michael Rotondi’s vision, while strikingly modern, perfectly compliments the iconic Chinese Theatre next door. It was an exciting day for fans of the Hollywood redevelopment movement as well as for the lucky tourists who got to glimpse the festivities from behind the barricades. Welcome to Hollywood.
Fortunately the ceremony didn’t take long as we and the wax figures were all in jeopardy of melting in the triple digit heat. After the scissors snipped shut we were ushered inside where a wax figure of President Obama greeted us. A ride in the elevator with some handsome press photographers got us to the 3rd floor where we saw the wax versions of J Lo, Brangelina, Johnny Depp and the big crowd pleaser – Beyonce. She struck a seductive frozen pose while Single Ladies played in the background and we nibbled delicious treats from Wolfgang Puck.
As we wandered through the exhibits we marveled at how lifelike the figures are. Creating them is a painstaking process that involves body molds, teeth casting and perfectly matching eye color with hand painted orbs true to the last iris fleck. The museum is designed to be an interactive experience and we took full advantage – putting on wigs with Elton John, biking with Lance Armstrong and belting out a few bars for Simon Cowell.
The museum’s namesake is a real historical figure, Marie Taussaud – a French woman born in 1761 who learned wax modeling from a physician who employed her mother. Marie’s first wax figure was of Voltaire. Could she have imagined the lifelike Marilyn Monroe gracing the entrance of the Hollywood themed entertainment venue? She toured with her collection throughout Europe and opened her first permanent exhibit on Bakers Road in London where they have been using the same process to make the wax figures for 200 years. The museum on Hollywood Boulevard is the ninth Madame Tussauds to be built.
We had a lot of fun and are thrilled to have a new offering for out of town guests. In the last few years this part of Hollywood has continued to get more inviting. There are the old standbys like the Pig & Whistle and Musso & Franks and new places to love like 25 Degrees at the Roosevelt and all of the shops and eats at Hollywood & Highland. Let us know if you want to learn more about living in Hollywood. From the hip condos in the new W to the beautiful listing we have nearby on Hillside, there is plenty to choose from!

What a Night!
Thank you to everyone who came out to Stout Hollywood to celebrate the holidays with us on Tuesday night! Not only was it a blast but we filled up Fire Station 27′s Toys for Tots donation baskets and then some!
Toys for Tots is very close to our hearts, but we would also like to share with you another very important initiative. The massive fire in downtown LA early in the week not only destroyed an apartment building under construction, but also decimated a storage of over 2000 gifts designated for at-risk seniors.
Mayor Garcetti and his wife Amy Elaine Wakeland are rallying people to come together and replace the giftbags so these frail seniors won’t have to go without.
The Garcettis have purchased 25 gift bags and we have contributed as well. In case you’re looking a cool present, why not give a gift bag to a senior instead buying your friend that box of chocolate that they will only curse you for after they’ve eaten it. Click for more info!
