    4th of July FUN!

Los Angeles has some spectacular firework entertainment planned all around the city.
If the Fireworksbeach is your scene… There will be barges off the coast of Malibu & Marina Del Rey with shows starting at 9pm. If you are lucky enough to get a reservation, you could enjoy a romantic dinner at a beach side restaurant and watch the fireworks over a glass of champagne. Ok…  a girl can dream right? Or you can just bring the family and a beach towel, find a spot on the sand and enjoy!
The Los Angeles Fire Department has provided the following addresses as key locations for the show.

    - 80 Malibu Colony Road

    - 27910 Pacific Coast Highway

    - Marina Del Rey, near Admiralty & Fiji Way.

Punch it into your GPS and go check it out!

The Hollywood Bowl never disappoints with it’s annual U.S. Birthday Bash.  The July 2nd, July 3rd & July 4th concerts, with special guest John Fogerty, will conclude with a firework spectacular. Who doesn’t love a spectacular? For ticketing info contact the Hollywood Bowl Box Office. www.hollywoodbowl.com.

If you don’t want to settle for anything less than the biggest and the brightest… check out the 83rd Annual “Americafest” at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Bragging rights for this event include “biggest & best” fireworks show in the state, attendance of over 25,000 people and a full day of family fun & entertainment! For schedule & ticket information visit www.rosebowlstadium.com.

Those are some of the bigger shows in L.A. but over the weekend there will be plenty of fun little local displays.  Whether you go big, small or no fireworks at all, have a happy and safe holiday!

    Best, Heather & Learka

    Farmers Market Fun

    Farmers Market
We  always feel so lucky to live in Southern California – sunshine and fresh produce all year long – but summer… ah summer, when a plethora of farm fresh goodies are in season including one of our favorites: cherries!

At the height of the cherry season you can find perfect Bings and Rainiers at Ralphs & Pink Berry, but if you have the time, getting them at your local farmers market feels like a special treat.  We are lucky to have a network of farmers markets throughout the city.  Using the Certified Farmers Market website http://www.farmernet.com/events/cfms is a quick way to find one close to your house.  An added bonus: the markets registered with the CFM are guaranteed to be farmers selling directly to the public.

Cherries are one of our favorites but there are so many wonderful farmers market treasures.  The sweet smell of strawberries draws you to the stalls where at the height of the season the mounds of bright red berries make taking home a three pack irresistible.  And when the baby artichokes make their way down the 5 to your table even an amateur cook can feel like a culinary mastermind. The Southland Farmers Association has a great list of what’s in season http://www.sfma.net/consumer/inseason.shtml so you don’t have to miss any of your favorites.

Most of the farmers markets are on Sunday, but there are a few on alternate days.  Silverlake has a Saturday market, the Plummer Park market is on Monday morning, you can visit a Venice market on Friday morning and the Culver City markets is Tuesday afternoon till 7:00 so you can get some shopping in at the end of the day.

Whichever market you pick – enjoy!
