Mid-Century Modern At It’s Best

In 1950 A. Quincy Jones completed his commission of an 11,500 square foot home on 2.3 acres of land in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles. The house just went on the market for $24,950,000.  This house is an excellent example of what Jones was famous for, albeit one of the larger versions of it.

Jones had  changed the tract house in California from the simple stucco box to a structure integrated into the landscape and surrounded by greenbelts. He introduced new materials (this house has cork floors… Revolutionary at the time),  and also a new way of living in the home.   He popularized an informal, outdoor-oriented open floor plan, that flowed seamlessly between the indoors and outdoor… That image is now synonymous with California living.

This house’s designs, in true Jones style, incorporates a usable atrium, high ceilings, post-and-beam construction and walls of glass. Additionally there is a a pool, pool house and tennis court. The house retains many of the details from the 1950s. It is rare to see something this true to the period. If you want to see this house or any other, please call us.
