For a lot of people, when you say Spanish style home they think, Southern California, historic, period details, tile, wood beams, leaded glass which are all things we love, but among those first thoughts is often also the word dark. Sometimes one of the trade offs for the cozy elegance of a Spanish style home is a reduction in natural light. The Spanish Colonial Revival architectural movement was popular in California from 1915-1931 so many of the “old” (by LA standards) homes in the area are in this style. But there are always exceptions and this week we were thrilled to see two light & bright Spanish homes in two very different parts of town: Santa Monica and Outpost.
Outpost

Both houses have been updated to modern living standards while retaining the charm of the last century. The house in Santa Monica has high ceilings, great flow, gorgeous colored glass and a family friendly coziness. The house in Outpost has many similar features but adds a wonderful glass covered atrium that makes it incredibly bright and cheerful.
